One day your life on this earth will come to an end. Have you ever stopped to consider this sobering truth. We don’t like to think about death. Especially our own death. For most of us death is an uncomfortable subject. I don’t want to die. I don’t want to think about dying. Many of us think we will never die, we will never grow old. The truth is, unless Jesus returns first, we will all die some day.
Why don’t we like to think about death? For many death is an unknown. Because of this many fear death. The Christian does not have to fear death. Death is not the end. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
There are some who are not afraid of death, but who should be terrified if they knew what death would bring for them. The Bible teaches that we do not cease to exist when we die. There are two places we can go - heaven and hell.
People like to talk about and hear about heaven, but the topic of hell is not very popular. Many do not believe that a loving God would send people to a place like hell. But then again why would a just God allow people who consistently break his law into a place like heaven, where righteousness dwells. Many believe that hell was an invention to scare peasants into submission to the powerful overlords of the church.
If you read your Bible, you will discover that the most detailed descriptions of Hell, that place of fire and brimstone, come from the mouth of Jesus Himself. Listen to our recent sermon and consider that Hell is for Real.
